Epiphone Les Paul Specials

October 16, 2009 by Captain Chrismo

So word is that some of the AIMM dealers have gotten LIMITED supplies of Epiphone Les Paul Specials – these things have TWO P-90 pickups!

They come in cherry, TV White and TV Yellow. I’ve seen the cherry and TV White so they do exist – just waiting to jump on a TV Yellow!

Anyone spot these near them? I can’t wait to have a new P-90 loaded guitar! I think I want to give the Duncan P-90 stacks a try…

Sorry for the lack of posting lately – picked up an almost-full-time job on top of school. Hope all is well with you guys!

My effects loop is COMPLETE…

Here’s my new effects loop. I’m running in this order:

Guitar
Korg Pitchblack Tuner
Whirlwind “Orange Box” Phaser
Visual Sound Comp 66
Barber LTD Special Recipe
ZVEX Distortron
CMATMODS Waterbox
MXR Carbon Copy
Fender Vibro King

Now I just need that hot pink pedalboard!

A quick plug…

A few topics below, I discussed my search for a new chorus pedal.

I have found a new friend in Chad Matthews, better known as CMATMODS. (www.cmatmods.com)

I purchased the Water Box from him, and I have to say it’s the most versatile, warm, clear chorus pedal I’ve ever used – plus it’s true bypass with no volume issues!

The customer service is outstanding, and Chad makes sure every last order is just right, plus he has a phenomenal warranty that covers almost anything with his pedals.

Check out his pedals – I especially love my new Water Box and the Brownie pedal.

My random score…

1984 BC Rich Mockingbird, NJ series in Atomic Pink (made in Japan). Believed to be Dimarzio stock pickups, similar to a PAF Pro and Super Distortion. Clean and plays like a dream.

I am so stoked…

As I posted awhile back, I’ve been lookin’ for a guitar with humbuckers or P-90s. Something with that vintage tone and feel.

I think Epiphone’s new 1959 Les Paul with Burstbuckers 2 & 3 just might cure my GAS. I hope to get my hands on one when they are released:

The search for a Chorus pedal ends…again…

Wound up with a CMATMODS Waterbox.

100% analog and true bypass, no volume boost, works great with overdrive, and the best part of all – you can mix in however much dry signal you want.

WIN.

The search for a Chorus pedal continues…

So things didn’t quite work out with the Carl Martin Chorus pedal…

The search continues. However, I’ve looked into even more options and as of right now, these are the ones I am most interested in:

Hardwire CR-7: digital, but sounds good. Not quite sure how it’ll add up to my setup.

EHX Stereo Electric Mistress: seems like a very versatile pedal, but it is a buffered pedal.

Jacques Chorus: sounds like it draws the best qualities of the most sought after pedals, but it is not true bypass.

Visual Sounds Chorus: models the original Boss chorus, but has a volume increase

Retro Sonic Chorus: sounds good, probably handles overdrive the best out of all of these, but rather pricey

Red Witch Chorus: sounds good, but I can’t find one to play before I purchase one, rather pricey to gamble on

What do you guys think?

PRS Mira – hit or miss?

What does everyone think of this guitar? I can’t get my hands on one – but it looks cool and sounds vintage.

The search for a chorus pedal (part two)

August 13, 2009 by Captain Chrismo

I snagged a phenomenal deal on a Carl Martin Classic Chorus.

From their website:

The Classic Chorus by Carl Martin, is not just another chorus pedal. Yes it can be powered by either a 9V battery or a regulated 9V power supply; yes it has the solid diecast housing with the cool off-white chicken-head knobs and the cool CM graphics; yes it has that great CM quality bypass switching, and the LED’s to indicate operation; and yes when you plug into this pedal, you will get a chorus effect…..but….there is so much more! Carl spent a year researching and developing this pedal for the vintage guitar nut in all of us. Plug into the Classic Chorus, step on the Bypass switch to turn the effect on, adjust the speed and depth knobs to obtain your favorite chorus effect and then bring up the level to show off just how good you sound. You will be amazed at how this pedal takes you back to the ‘day’ with it’s full, round, vintage chorus sound. Now hang on to your hat and step on the Vibrato switch. By adjusting the Rate knob clockwise you change your sound from Chorus to Vibrato with the full Vibrato effect achieved with the Rate and Depth knobs turned completely clockwise. (The Speed Depth and Level knobs are universal for both Chorus and Vibrato.) You will notice a distinct drop in your highs, but Carl says this is intentional….it will keep your sound warmer and rounder, plus, when you use this effect with Distortion/Overdrives it won’t fizz out or die, you will just get that massive overdriven chorus/vibrato effect that you always dreamed of.

Sounds like a winner to me! Now if we can just find Alan the right modulation pedal for his rig…to be continued…

The search for a chorus pedal (part one)

August 13, 2009 by Captain Chrismo

Alan and I have begun searching for THE chorus/modulation pedal for our rigs.

I plan on getting into the music store this weekend and searching for the Ibanez CS9, Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus, Dunlop Uni-Vibe Stereo Chorus, Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress, MXR Stereo Chorus, Carl Martin Classic Chorus, or the TC Electronic Stereo Chorus Flanger.

Any other recommendations to look into? Should have a recap this weekend…
